Generic Rapivir 500mg 10 tabs, Valaciclovir
Composition: Each tablet contains: 500 mg of valacyclovir.
USES:
Valtrex is indicated for the treatment of acute localized herpes. Valtrex is indicated for the treatment of initial and recurrent episodes of genital herpes. Valtrex is indicated for the chronic suppression of recurrent episodes of genital herpes. To reduce the risk of transmission of genital herpes to susceptible heterosexual couple, in combination with safer sex practices.
Valtrex is indicated for the prophylaxis of cytomegalovirus infection and disease (CMV) following organ transplantation.
Valtrex is used to treat cold sores.
Dosage:
Adults: Treatment of herpes zoster: The dose is 1000 mg of Valtrex to be taken 3 times a day for 7 days. Treating genital herpes simplex infections: The dose is 500 mg of Valtrex to be taken 2 times a day. For recurrent episodes, treatment should be for 5 days. For initial episodes, which can be more severe, treatment may have to be prolonged to 10 days. The dosage should be initiated as soon as possible. For recurrent episodes of herpes simplex, ideally this is done in the prodromal period or as soon as the first signs or symptoms. Prevention (deletion) of relapse of genital herpes simplex infections: Some patients with very frequent recurrences (eg 10 or more per year) may benefit more when the dose of 500 mg daily in divided form is taken (250 mg 2 times daily).
Contraindications:
Valtrex is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to valacyclovir, acyclovir, or any component of the formulation of Valtrex.
Precautions:
Hydration status: You must be careful to ensure that patients at risk of dehydration ingest adequate amounts of fluids, especially if they are elderly patients, because it can occur when precipitation exceeds the solubility acyclovir (2.5 mg / mL) in the intratubular fluid.
It is likely that elderly patients with reduced kidney function and, therefore, must take into account the need for a reduction in this group of patients. Both elderly patients, such as those with kidney disease are at increased risk of developing neurological side effects and should be monitored closely for evidence of these effects.
In the reported cases, these reactions were generally reversible on discontinuation of treatment (see ADVERSE REACTIONS).
Use of high doses of Valtrex in liver failure and liver transplant: There are no data regarding the use of high doses of Valtrex (4 g more / day) in patients with liver disease. Therefore, care must be taken when these patients were administered high doses of Valtrex.
Use in genital herpes:
Valtrex suppressive therapy reduces the risk of transmission genital herpes. No cure genital herpes or completely eliminate the risk of transmission. In addition to therapy with Valtrex is recommended that patients employ safer sex.
Overdose:
Symptoms and signs: It is reported acute renal failure and neurological symptoms, including confusion, hallucinations, agitation, decreased consciousness and coma in patients receiving valacyclovir overdose.
Also nausea and vomiting may occur. Caution is required to prevent inadvertent overdose. Many of the reported cases
involved patients with renal and older, who received repeated overdoses, due to lack of an appropriate reduction in dose. Treatment: Patients should be observed for signs of toxicity. Haemodialysis significantly increases the removal of blood acyclovir and therefore can be considered as an option for use in symptomatic overdose.
