THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS: keratolytic.
The podophilia is indicated for the topical treatment of benign epithelial tumors such as fibrosis and papillomas. It is also used for the topical treatment of condyloma acuminata, genital and perianal warts.
Pharmacokinetics in Humans: The podophyllin (Podophyllum resin) is a mixture of plant chemicals peltalum Podophyllum (mandrake or may apple). The main constituent of the resin is podophyllotoxin.
Podophyllin is a keratolytic agent with caustic and cathartic actions. The main activity is the resin of podophyllin antimitotic activity by arresting mitosis.
Antimitotic action of podophyllin is the result of interference with the movement of chromosomes. The locking mechanism of molecular mitosis is by disruption of microtubules podophyllin via ligation to tubulin.
The caustic action of podophyllin antimitotic effect results from the drug.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to the components of the formula, application over large areas of skin, administration in excessive amounts, use for prolonged periods; also should not be applied in the oral mucosa or during pregnancy.
PRECAUTIONS: The podophilia is highly irritating to eyes and mucous membranes, after topical application on the affected area should be washed podophilia and stir in 1-4 hours to prevent absorption of the drug.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Following the precautions in its administration, apply podophyllin prior assessment of risk-benefit or under the responsibility of the physician.
ADVERSE REACTIONS:

DRUG INTERACTIONS AND OTHER GENDER: Concomitant administration of other keratolytic agents podophyllin can cause extensive damage to the skin. Ethyl alcohol enhances the harmful effect of podophyllin.
PRECAUTIONS IN RELATION TO EFFECTS OF CARCINOGENESIS, MUTAGENESIS, Impairment of Fertility: There are no reports of carcinogenic and mutagenic potential of podophyllin. Some authors agree that it may cause fetal harm.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Topical.
Wash with soap and water to the affected area, apply the medicine to the injury.

Do not try to apply podophyllin several times a day.
REPRESENTATIONS AND MANAGEMENT Overdosage:
Systemic manifestations: Nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, hepatotoxicity, renal failure, disorientation, coma and even death.
